Chant to Chanson: Music of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance

Explore the music and instruments of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Encounter the beauties and curiosities of early music, both instrumental and vocal with live performances. Music will range from chant to dances, madrigals and motets. Instruments include viols, recorders, krummhorns, guitars, veilles, rebecs, gemshorns and more. This "old" music will become "new" before your very eyes. Session I: Acquaintance with Medieval times, music and instruments. Session II: Acquaintance with the Renaissance period of history and beginning of Renaissance music. Session III: Renaissance vocal music. Session IV: Renaissance instrumental music. After these classes, you will be fully prepared to enjoy the annual Pensacola Early Music Consort (free and open to the public) concert which will be held on November 11, 2018 at 3pm at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church.
